Orkland Raidurz vs Clar Karond Corsairs

An early top of the table clash between the Raidurz and the Corsairs saw a bumper crowd of 80,000 fans. Early doors didn't disappoint as the Corsairs, receiving swept the ball to the right, slipped through a gap in the defensive line. Using their speed advantage, the Corsairs kept themselves out of harms way (a lesson learned against the Rotters) and further exploited the gap. Even the loss of a blitzer being thrown into the crowd failed to stop them racing into an early lead.

Now it was the Raidurz's turn to show what they could do. Gathering the ball after a poor kick, the Orcs looked to form up their cage, led by the Troll and Big un blockers. Slowly moving into position The Corsair linemen responded by dropping deep to cover for a flying goblin. While their blitzers circled looking for an opening. Sure enough an even hit on the ball carrier managed to scatter the ball free. The luck of the bounce went the way of the Corsairs. Gratefully collecting the ball, they quickly moved downfield. The slower Raidurz players could only look on as they went 2-0 down.

Once more from the kick off the Raidurz began to move downfield again. Once more the Corsairs dropped off, keeping themselves away from the powerful orc line. The Corsairs managed to slow the Raidurz down enough to get to half time with their lead intact.

The Raidurz had to do it all again in the second half, using their drive to slowly move downfield. Once more the Corsait blitzers circled looking for an opportunity. The opportunity did come from an unlikely source. The Raidurz Troll picked up and threw his Goblin teammate. However unlike against the Bloodsox, the throw went awry with the goblin crashing to the floor and spilling the ball.

Once more luck was with the Corsairs as they quickly gathered the bouncing ball before swinging it left into the open field. With Raidurz defenders scrambling to get back into position, the Corsairs went fot the throw. It failed miserably, fumbling the ball. The gleeful Orcs quickly regathered before sending a long pass deep into the Corsair half. Unfortunately they couldn't gather the pass as it scattered. Both sides then scrambled for the ball to no avail. Times up with the Corsairs holding on for a 2-0 win.

Another 2 league games were also completed. The Miami Rotters polished off the Cleaveland Bronze 2-0. It was a brutal affair with 17 players either injured or knocked out in the game. Both sides also suffered a fatality.

The Tir na nOg Ravens battled past the LV Raiders and a closely fought encounter. Eventually holding on for a 2-1 victory. Elsewhere the Gryphon Bloodsox are taking on the Midshire Giants, so far the Halflings holding their own with the score currently 1-1.

Mournville Stormers II

After finally sourcing 8 Gnoblars from that well known auction site, it was time to get the team completed. The Gnoblars are pretty simple to paint up, nothing flash to match their rather humble lives.

That's another team I can add to the completed pile. Not sure when I'll get around to using this team.

Clar Karond Corsairs vs Miami Rotters

So the second league game got under way with the Corsairs taking on the Rotters. The Rotters lived up to their name, taking every opportunity to comit acts of foul play. Even the referee seemed to take a blind eye to the events.

With the Corsairs receiving, they began to probe on the left to force an opening for their Blitzers. It did not go well. The Rotters managed to close them down on the sidelines and let the game descend into a slugging match. This favoured the Dwarfs.

Eventually the Corsairs managed to extricate themselves and move the ball to the right. Eventually utilising their speed advantage to get into the open field. It came at a cost with 5 Corsair players in the injury box.

It took them to the 8th turn to finally get into the endzone and take the lead. Thankfully the halftime recovery rolls went well and 4 players returned for the second half.

With the 2nd half underway, the Rotters brought the ball up field towards the left of their line. However the Corsairs managed to slip a couple of blitzers through the line.

With the ball carrier isolated the Corsairs blitzed him, scattering the ball. Quickly picking it up they surged to the line for a 2-0 lead.

The remainder of the half saw the Rotters concentrating on taking out Corsair players, however the Referee (unfounded rumours of a half time visit from the Corsair Cheerleaders) decided to take action sending off 2 of the Rotters for foul play.

So the Corsairs off the mark with a hard fought 2-0 win, but on the wrong side of a 5-2 casualty count. Both sides counting the cost with players missing for their next game.

Thunder Bay Titans

With the latest release of Blood Bowl, Season 2, one of the teams in the boxed set were the Black Orcs. Previously they had been part of Orc teams, but were now paired up with Goblins.

So here they are, the Thunder Bay Titans in their Purple and white colours. Picked them just to be a bit different.

I also took the opportunity in painting up the tokens and extra game balls from the various sprues I've picked up.  I stuck the game balls on circular bases as I have a habit of losing them.

I've now got some Gnoblars that have just arrived to paint up and complete my Ogre team.

Wasteland Wanderers and a Dark Elf

As I prepare my Dark Elves for the upcoming season, I find myself in need of an extra 2 blitzers as I want to field all 4. Trying to source tham has been rather difficult so I decided to do a simple head swap on an Elf union blitzer. SImply painted up in the team colours and he matches in well.

1 team I have always fancied trying out is a Chaos Renegade team and so the Wasteland Wanderers were born. Not wanting to purchase a full team I simply converted a few old Chaos Marauders and a 2nd edition plastic human player. The thrower has the upper torso and left arm from a Catachan Jungle fighter.

The beauty of the Rengade teams is that you can add a few figures from different races. I've used an old 3rd edition orc, a 6th edition Goblin, a Troll from WWG miniatures, a 3rd edition Dark elf and a 6th edition Skaven. Quite an eclectic mix. A simple black and silver colour scheme ties the team together.

With 14 players so far, I can add a further 2 big guys. I have the options of the Ogre, Minotaur or Rat Ogre.

Orkland Raidurz vs Gryphon Bloodsox

The League season began with an early kick off between the Raidurz and the Bloodsox. The Raidurz were looking to avenge their pre-season defeat. They got off to a very quick start. After they received the ball from the kick off, they got the ball into the hands of their Goblin. He was then quickly thrown over the line of scrimmage on the 2nd turn.

Shocked by this the Bloodsox, tried manfully to kickstart their game. It was not to be. Despite getting a hold of the ball, slowly maneuvering the Raidurz line to create a gap, disaster was to strike. An attempt at a quick pass to one of their blitzers was spilled by the thrower, scattering across the line of scrimmage into the hands of a grateful Raidurz blitzer. This was to become a recurring theme for the Bloodsox thrower for the rest of the game. The Orcs quickly formed up a cage and trundled their way to the Bloodsox line and the inevitable score.

Twice more, the Bloodsox failed to complete a pass, ceding possession to the Raidurz. The second half didn't get much better, starting a man down, the Raidurz began to pummel the Bloodsox line, sending 2 more players to the injury box. The Bloodsox gamely hung on in the game only to once more be undone by  a fumbled pass. The Raidurz quickly seized possession before pushing on for their 3rd score.

So the Raidurz got off to a comfortable start, but back to the drawing board for the Bloodsox, they need a game plan to deal with a big guy with the Raidurz Troll causing havoc.

Orkland Raidurz bt Gryphon Bloodsox 3-0

Hopefully another couple of league games next week.

The Scented Slayers

These are an old team that I had converted back in 3rd edition days as a club member fancied trying the Chaos team. They are all converted figures apart from the 3rd edition Lord Borak. So as Blood Bowl is on the rise I thought I would refurbish them onto new bases. The Beastmen just had their loin cloth uniformed. Left the rather garish skin tones.

In the latest edition these are now Chaos Chosen. May have to convert a 4th Blocker or just proxy the Lord Borack model.

Mournville Stormers take shape

I have always fancied running an Ogre team. I know they are one of the more difficult teams to use and probably won't win many games, but they are Ogres. Who doesn't want to field Morg and his chums.

In the current version of Blood Bowl, the Ogres are accompanied by Gnoblars instead of snotlings. So will need to pick a few of these up to complete the team.

Only 2 of the figures are actually specifically for Blood Bowl. 1 is a Gladiator and the other 2 are just simple conversions with weapons removed.

1st edition Morg

2nd edition Morg

The Gladiator

Marauder Miniatures Ogre

GW Ogre converted.

Now just need to source a few Gnoblars to complete the team.
