Clar Karond Corsairs - The Flashing Blades

As it gets closer to the start of our clubs Blood Bowl league, I have been thinking over a change. I normally always go for Orcs, but fancy a change. So Dark Elves it is. These have been built straight out of the box. I have also ordered an additional lineman and Blitzer to increase my options. I will also add a pair of Assasins, I like the look of those from Meiko miniatures but want to see how the Blitzer sizes up first.

Witch Elves

Runners

The uniform is a simple Black Red with some Field Grey for some items of clothing. These have deliberately been quickly done as I need them for Thursday night.

Keeping track of the score

After I made the team dugout, I realised I hadn't left any space for tracking the score. So now I needed a scoreboard. I did a quick browse across the internet and came up with a simple idea and set to work. As I had run out of balsa wood for the score plates, I've used some spare MDF bases (These will get replaced once I order in some balsa wood).

The Scoreboard

I did have an issue with the spikes for holding the score plates. They were initially from wooden barbecue skewers. However I noticed a few issues with fitting after they were painted, so I replaced them with steel pins. The ladder is a spare left over from my Lord of the Rings collection. I can now add this to my stadium collection. But now need to crack on and get my Dark Elf team painted up.

Pre season games

At the club on Thursday I found myself umpiring 2 games of Blood Bowl. With 3 players in their first game and Mitch only having the 1 game under his belt.

Game 1 saw Mitch with his Wood Elves take on Neil and his Dwarfs. Neil struggled to get to grips with the speed of the Elves. Their lightning quick attacks were able to exploit any gaps. As Neil said, Dwarfs are much less of a power house that they had been in the Old 2nd Edition days.

So the Elder Suns ran out 2-0 winners against the New Karak Gyros

Game 2 saw 2 novices, Thom and Robbo with Chaos against Humans. The whole game was characterised by Robbo's total inability to pick the ball up. Not thatThom was much better. In a close hard fought affair Thom sneaked the win with the one successful pass of the game

So the Chaos Renegades ran out 1-0 winners against the LV Raiders. Hopefully we have 2 or 3 more preason games next week as everyone gets used to the rules and possibly try out new teams.

Team Dug out

As part of  my idea of putting together a rather ramshackle stadium I decided to create a dug out for the team. It's a simple construction of foamboard, some MDF columns from Warbase, coffee stirrers and some spare movement trays I hadn't yet put together as they were 3mm depth, not my preferred 2mm.

Pretty happy with it. Paintjob is a bit basic. May re-do the floor. I now need to build a scoreboard and a standing area.

Small Stand - Cheap seats

Now no Blood Bowl pitch looks complete without some stands for the supporters. My idea is for a ramshackle set of stands / dugouts for a small backwater pitch. I already have 1 srand built which is at the club, so now for a second.

It's a simple construction of a MDF base and various bits of Balsa wood, modelling sticks and coffee stirrers.

Given the designation of the cheap seats. They will not hold many fans, but that is the idea. I do need to source some fans and have seen a few 3d prints.

Quite happy with how this turned out. May do a second similar one. I also want to add a score board, even a toilet block - Warbases do a nice mdf one. I have also noticed that TT combat produce a set of open stands for a jousting arena. These may also be added.

Ratsburg Squealers vs Da Bad Moon Blitz

So tonight Mitch and myself gave the new rules a try out as part of the Pre-season before our league starts, Miitch took the Squealers as he wanted to try out a Skaven team. I took the Blitz.

The game started with the Blitz receiving. They quickly got hold of the ball and began to form a cage to protect the ball carrier. Meanwhile the Squealers attempted a quick break through but after making little success they pulled back out of range of the Orc. Meanwhile the Blitz tightened up their cage and began to trundle down the field. One of the Squealers Blitzers managed to get himself trampled to death under the cage. Eventually forcing an opening on the right hand side, The Blitz made a succressful pass and an Orc Blitzer charged to the line for the early score.

From the re-start the Squealers Gutter Runners burst into space, while the remaining blitzer with a few line rats in support tried to create a gap on the left hand side. With the opening created, their thrower swept around, handing off to a Gutter Runner who then burst into space before firing a pass to an open colleague who quicly danced his way into the endzone. 1-1 right on half time.

The second half began and once more the Skaven charged down the left flanks. With most of the Orcs tied up in the tackle zone. Leaving a single Blitzer to make a last ditch attempt to knock out the Gunner runner. Doubke skulls, then a reroll only got a push back. Not enough as the Gutter runner simply dodged out of the tackle zone before moving into the endzone to give the squealers a well deserved 2-1 lead. However the Blitz still had 7 turns to get a score.

So 7 turns, well the Blitz would go for the tried and trusted cage. Then promptly failed to pick up the ball. Luckily the Squealers had set up well back and were unable to exploit this. The Blitz promptly regathered the ball and began to push down the right hand side. The Squealers did their best to try and disrupt the cage, but were being gradually forced back towards their own line. With the Blitz eating up the turns as they ground their way downfield, The Squealers tried a desperate last ditch blitz However luck was not on their side, rolling a 1 for a go for it, promptly falling flat on their face. This allowed the Blitz to use their last turn, clearing the squealers out of the way, creating the gap for their thrower to tie the game in the last turn.

A good run out for both teams, finishing honours even at 2-2.

The Ratsburg Squealers

So my Skaven Team also got a bit of a refurbishment. When I dug them out I realised that only half of the team had actually been painted. Even worse the Jade/blue armour colour I had chosen was no longer in production. I tried to mix the colour unsuccessfully so opted to re-do in a field grey then completed the rest of the models.

Stormvermin

Rat Ogre and Thrower

The sharp eyed amongst you will have picked out one of the Linemen and Rat Ogre are the old 2nd edition models. They match well with 3rd edition figures. I also have a spare Stormvermin as you can only field 2. Not sure how that happened.

Da Bad Moon Blitz

Despite having numerous teams from the old 3rd Edition. I decided to upgrade my favoured Orcs with a team of the new models. First thoughts, these guys are huge in comparison. Lovely figures and very easy to paint up. My Old Black Crag Freebooterz were being replaced with both a new name and colour scheme.

I decided to go with Black and Yellow. Now one of the issues with the new kits are that you get 2 identical sprues. So differentiate them, 1 set has yellow helmets, the second Black. I then randomly mixed the 2 colours to make each player an individual. I also decided to add a couple of the new Goblins, along with my old 3rd edition Troll, Ripper.

As I slowly refresh my old teams I'll add them here. Got my first friendly game on Monday to give these brutes a run out.
