So tonight Mitch and myself gave the new rules a try out as part of the Pre-season before our league starts, Miitch took the Squealers as he wanted to try out a Skaven team. I took the Blitz.
The game started with the Blitz receiving. They quickly got hold of the ball and began to form a cage to protect the ball carrier. Meanwhile the Squealers attempted a quick break through but after making little success they pulled back out of range of the Orc. Meanwhile the Blitz tightened up their cage and began to trundle down the field. One of the Squealers Blitzers managed to get himself trampled to death under the cage. Eventually forcing an opening on the right hand side, The Blitz made a succressful pass and an Orc Blitzer charged to the line for the early score.
From the re-start the Squealers Gutter Runners burst into space, while the remaining blitzer with a few line rats in support tried to create a gap on the left hand side. With the opening created, their thrower swept around, handing off to a Gutter Runner who then burst into space before firing a pass to an open colleague who quicly danced his way into the endzone. 1-1 right on half time.
The second half began and once more the Skaven charged down the left flanks. With most of the Orcs tied up in the tackle zone. Leaving a single Blitzer to make a last ditch attempt to knock out the Gunner runner. Doubke skulls, then a reroll only got a push back. Not enough as the Gutter runner simply dodged out of the tackle zone before moving into the endzone to give the squealers a well deserved 2-1 lead. However the Blitz still had 7 turns to get a score.
So 7 turns, well the Blitz would go for the tried and trusted cage. Then promptly failed to pick up the ball. Luckily the Squealers had set up well back and were unable to exploit this. The Blitz promptly regathered the ball and began to push down the right hand side. The Squealers did their best to try and disrupt the cage, but were being gradually forced back towards their own line. With the Blitz eating up the turns as they ground their way downfield, The Squealers tried a desperate last ditch blitz However luck was not on their side, rolling a 1 for a go for it, promptly falling flat on their face. This allowed the Blitz to use their last turn, clearing the squealers out of the way, creating the gap for their thrower to tie the game in the last turn.
A good run out for both teams, finishing honours even at 2-2.
